Of the eight municipalities in the Durham Region, Pickering is the closest to Toronto. It is also a part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The southern region of Pickering is mainly suburban and industrial with an emerging downtown. The northern region of Pickering is largely rural/agricultural but also houses several residential developments. There are many hamlets in Pickering including Claremont, Brougham, and Whitevale and Greenwood.
Significant historic sites and museums are part of Pickering’s landscape. Pickering has small town charm with miles of hiking trails, parks, green space and Lake Ontario in its backyard.
